Julia Commander, Social Media Chair
Julia Commander is currently a project conservator at the Penn Museum, focusing on monumental Egyptian stone. Julia graduated from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation in 2017 specializing in objects conservation with a preventive minor. Graduate and post-graduate training positions at the American Museum of Natural History, the Gordion Excavations, the Penn Museum, the J. Paul Getty Museum Antiquities Department, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art focused on particular interests in archaeological materials. Her interest in preventive conservation, which started in local museums and archives, has also continued to grow through field work and institutional research.
"As a graduate student in the Philadelphia area, I always appreciated the sense of community that PACA provided for conservation professionals. Now, returning to the area as a Project Conservator at the Penn Museum, I am excited to get more involved and contribute to the organization. As social media chair, I hope to apply outreach skills to continue fostering that sense of community and professional engagement." As Social Media Chair, Julia coordinates PACA's presence on Facebook and Instagram, helping to connect PACA members and others who are interested in conservation and preservation. |
